At ECCCo- Early Childhood Creative Collaboration, we take pride in our diverse range of projects that reflect our commitment to innovative, land-based, and creative early childhood education. From pioneering new educational philosophies to collaborating with local communities, our projects showcase our dedication to enriching early learning experiences.
Embracing New Educational Philosophies
In 2010, the introduction of the NEW Kindergarten Program and How Does Learning Happen? marked a significant shift in early childhood education. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, we began collaborating with artist Sophie Anne Edwards, who played a key role in supporting our professional learning.
A northern Ontario Reggio-Inspired Network
To build on our established relationships and foster local engagement, we created NORN, a Northern Ontario Reggio-Inspired Network. This ad hoc group met with like minded people and engaged in documentation study sessions, book study opportunities, and hands-on art experiences, guided by Sophie Edwards.
Tiny Traces Project
In 2021-22, we partnered with The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee and secured a federal grant through the Healthy Communities Initiative. The Tiny Traces project, which explores environmental connections, is documented on our website.
Supporting the Mosaic of Marks, Words, Materials Exhibit in Sudbury
The Ontario Reggio Association brought the Mosaic of Marks, Words, Materials exhibit to Sudbury-Manitoulin in 2023. We actively volunteered in planning and professional learning related to this inspiring exhibit.
ORA Northeastern Networks
In 2024, we became active members of the newly launched Ontario Reggio Association Northeastern Network. This initiative supports and connects local early childhood educators across the region.
Upcoming Publications
Looking ahead to 2025, Sophie Edwards, Julie Kelly, and Sharon Speir will publish two books featuring past projects, including Water Pathways and Tiny Traces. These publications will highlight our ongoing work and contributions to early childhood education.
